Long Live Rome Shopping for a dinner party - a poem

This poem was inspired by International Women's Day and The Politics of Meat.

Shopping for a dinner party

by Martha Magenta

She stroked the meat lovingly,
Caressing the clingfilm wrapping with her thumb.
The cold, dead flesh succumbed.
Curled up in a plastic container,
Shaped in a circle,
Suitable for the supermarket,
Soft, red, drained of blood -
the blood no doubt put into
A black pudding or a salami -
It waited obediently
To be taken home for dinner.

Long Live Rome Re: Shopping for a dinner party - a poem

The precession of the very event is tearful.
Dear creatures what they must have surpassed.
In Pain
In Anguish
Torture, Pain, Caged!

Alone they were!
Heartless the Men were!

I wonder did they wonder...
